Working on the TBI. Trying to merge GMC to Caddy to AMC....
The insulation around the tiny brown wire from the alt is crumbling. Do I need this wire? Its also 20 feet long. Does it need to be that long? I believe it to be a resistor wire, but not sure why it needs it. Guess I'll rap it in elec tape and bury it into the loom.... Oh, yah, the wiring harness is from an '85 GW.Last edited by jaber; 09-25-2017, 07:43 AM.Jeff

Goes to the alt.. Might be te field wire! Otherwise known as the sense wire. I'd replace that sucker!! Looks real bad. Where does it go? Was it part of the jeep harness or the Cadillac? Also. What model alternator?
AwEsome build!!!!! That cad 500 just bearly fits In there! Heck of a find. You are one lucky duck to get it for free!Terry

your a more hopeful man than me, i would have salvaged the best parts and scrapped that pos..It's 11:59 on Radio Free America; this is Uncle Sam, with music, and the truth until dawn. Right now I've got a few words for some of our brothers and sisters in the occupied zone:

former ride :77Wag-401/QT/44's-73k miles!

As for the wire, its a single, FINE strand wire. I was told to replace it with a light bulb...I taped up the bad spots and will just burry it into the harness. It is part of the '85 GW harness, and the back of the 2 alts (Jeep and Caddy) were the same. So everything seemed to be plug and play.
I have to do fuel pump, radiator, tranny lines, O2 sensor, and drive line.
Getting closer one Sunday at a time....Jeff
