Late Model Hi-Lo 4WD Handle Pics

I've looked everywhere but can't find any good close-ups of the immediate area around the Hi Lo 4WD handle where it goes into the tranny tunnel.

I'm installing my new ACC carpet kit and I'm not sure what was exposed around that area, and what the carpet actually covered. Was the handle base visible over the carpet, or does the carpet cover everything but the handle, etc?

I'm trying to get as close to original look as possible so any pics you guys could post of original look would be greatly appreciated.

Rob

I'm working at the moment, but I can get some photos of my 1991 with original carpet in a couple of hours

I just found time to get some pics now, hopefully these will help.

You can see that the whole shaft and handle is exposed, but the point where it comes through the floor is hidden by the seat base.

Mine is 100% original, except for the fire extinguisher I'm holding out of the way!

Awesome, so the base is completely covered, just the handle is coming thru the carpet. That answers that! Thanks again!!!

Quick question "while I have you here", are you supposed to be able to move that lever while the vehicle is in park with engine off. If not, when are you supposed to be able to move it? Mine won't budge with the car in Park, or any other gear with the engine off.

No problem, happy to help!

The lever should only move from 4hi to 4lo when it's in 4wd, done via the switch on the bottom of the dash.

Once in 4hi, I find sometimes the lever will work when stationary, but sometimes it won't and I need the Wagoneer to roll slightly to get it to budge.

Excellent. Since I've had it started just long enough to roll onto the car trailer, and a few seconds a few months back after the carb rebuild, I haven't had a chance to see if anything actually works.

I know the 4WD control lever won't do anything since one of the hardline vacuum hoses that control everything is broken just past the firewall in the engine compartment. That's another thing on the long list of mechanical 'to be fixed' items.

Thanks!

I think the flash makes it looks better than it is, but I'm still very happy with how well it has lasted.
Unfortunately that means I have to be quite careful with it, as I don't want to ruin it!
