This has been a hard one for me. I noticed a good while back (during late summer) that it had a bad cold start miss when it was humid out. I also found out fast that anything under about 65*F out, it has this miss.
The 360 starts up nice and easy, kick it down and it will sit there and lope. Revving seems to be a bit of a challenge(I never try to rev high when cold, I'm talkin just a 1K-2.5K rev) Go to take off, and it won't run up higher than about 2500 and struggles to accelerate. After it warms up a bit, idle smooths but it will still go back to missing while driving it I give it too much throttle, or even go up a hill.
If I get on the highway (after short warmup) and get it up to 55 nice and soft, hills can still be a challenge. I found this out one night heading back home on thanksgiving. It was in the 40's, warmed it up some, took off and I thought it was plenty warm. Gauge showed the engine was about 120* or so. idk
After it's warmed up a good long while, it runs great. It runs perfectly fine from cold start at above 70*f outside and with lower humidity.
and when it's real cold for it...It has to warm up and be at full operating temp for a good number of minutes for the miss to go away.(while driving)
To me, it also seems as if its missing on all 8. You could maybe even call it erratic ignition.
I don't think this is carb related. Everything operates smooth with it, and I rebuilt and tuned it in Jan of '16. Ever since then, up till this fall it's started and ran great with no miss at any outside temperature. It also never needed any warmup period before driving.
I've been running MM oil in the gas for the last several months and from my understanding, that has some cleaning properties to it, so I should still be good.
I also have the full air filter housing on it and now have the heat riser tube re-attached.
Ignition:
Stock distributor(103,8XX miles) with the MSD cap adapt and 8mm wires.
I had a no-name 50K volt TFI coil on it. I originally thought that was my problem, as they can cause missing if moisture is getting in.
I have since replaced it with an Accel TFI coil and have no change.
Still has the Stock ignition box. Could that cause a miss when cold? I understand that normal failure is when they are hot and that they cause you to lose all spark.
I checked the vacuum advance on the dist, and the switch on the intake and all of that is still working as should. I have also checked for any signs of moisture inside of the distributor and cap before starting in the cold and on humid days. Cant say that i've found any wet components.
What else could I check for? What else could go wrong and cause my symptoms?
