i just bought a new filter & gasket for my 1989 gw auto 727 and it came with two gaskets?
is this an error or ...?

also what do i need to torque the nuts to on the pan?

    thanks!!

Actually the Chevy turbo 350 trans and the tf727 use the same filter. They are boxed with the gasketsfor each so the parts manufacturer only needs to use one part number.

could someone clarify this for me?

also, once i get the pan and filter off, i've heard i can spray a little carb cleaner up into the tranny to help get some more gunk out before i put a new filter on, correct or diaster waiting to happen?

                  thanks!

                    I think the gaskets are for a 727 and a 999(?).

You want the kit with the rubber gaskets. I just use a 1/4" drive or a nut driver and go around the pan in order barely snugging the bolts, then go around again snugging them tighter. I don't know about the carb cleaner, "I" wouldn't do it. If any gunk, it should be in the bottom of the pan.

Yep w/ the multi-trans gasket/filter set. That also fits the RE42 of the 96-98 I6 ZJ, because I have one and that's it. Just shag the filter in and pick whichever gasket that fits.

If neither gasket OR filter fit, then the parts monkey gave you the wrong part, because that never happens...

WAIT before you put that gasket in go down to your Chrysler dealer and get a gasket for a 46rh. They have the same pattern and shape but the 47rh has a reusable gasket that is plastic with rubber lips. It is only 15 bucks but lasts a while

I completely agree with SHACKWRRR on this one. I kept having annoying leaks until I switched to the gasket he is referring to. They are almost impossible to over torque and seal better than anything.

The normal torque is 144 inch-lbs and use only the filter El_Diablo shows in the second picture.

I would not spray anything up into the transmission. You could end up forcing dirt and debris in areas causing more problems.

as far as the torqueing pattern, when i did mine i did a novel thing and read the iinstructions, it had a diagram on what order to torque the bolts, and also what setting. Then after i went for a short drive, i checked them all again. It was the standard rubber gasket, i have had no problems.

I agree with the re-usable gasket, although a good cork gasket (transtar, etc.) should not leak either if put on dry and torqued properly.

I wouldn't mess with spraying anything, most contaminants should be in the dirty filter, magnet and in the pan. you can use cleaner to clean the pan out (I use Brakleen). I use a speed handle (if room allows), makes it a little easier. use torque wrench too!
