    I lost my door key

I still have the ignition key, so I can drive anywhere to get a new one.

    What options do I have?

Can a dealership make a new one based on VIN, me driving there and showing legal paperwork?

Should I drive somewhere, remove my door liner panel and let them pop a lock out?

Do they not need any of that anymore?

don?t even need pull door panel
just pull clip & pop lock out
then go to a locksmith, 10 minute job 4 them

Yup I did what Babywag said last year, now all my locks match the ignition. I even did the glove box lock at the same time.

I got a hide-a-key because my door locks are so stiff thanks to BJs new door lock spring, that I worry I'll break it off in the door lock.

Don't even need to open the door. I've done it before on a truck with the proper screwdriver and needle nose pliers.

I was able to get a NOS AMC Key blank on ebay last year for about $8. Not sure if you care, but they are out there.

My BJs springs were so stiff the locks were non functional and I had to drill new holes in the plate the spring is attached to to get them to work.

With nothing more than a key blank and a small file you could make one yourself.

I watch and learned from then on did it myself.

Just disassemble the lock and lay out the tumblers.

There will be two tumblers for each tooth of the lock one full size the other cut to make the ridges of the lock.

Lay out the cut ones and file the key to match the profile of the cut pins.

It will take about 15 minutes to do.

Once you have one side and functioning in the lock, put the lock back together.

Take the one side cut key and just have the hardware store cut new keys using the one side to do both sides.
