1978 NT cherokee build with pics

Hello guys. Supper stoked to finally join and start my own build. I have been reading non stop well when ever I'm not on missions. There is a ton of great info on here. Hope I will meet up with some of you guys when I get home.

So to the build. My awesome wife just bought me this 78 Cherokee for $1200 out of Vancouver WA for my coming home present/project from Afghanistan. The whole thing was really rough. It came in the 258/three speed flavor.

October 2012 she is going into my buddy's shop in Albany, Oregon. Carlos at Superior Performance Automotive.

plans

Alright so I just had the windshield replaced as it was cracked all the way across that was only $190.

I'm going to be buying a new upgraded headlight relay harness with 4 pigtails to run some Hella 500FF with 100W bulbs from IFSJA member Serehill. Awesome products.

I bought a chevy 4 speed SM465 comes with a nice granny gear and a NP205 transfer case. it was a good deal for $200 off of craigslist. Hopefully I will get a twin stick shift kit for the NP205 from JB Fab. There also local out of Salem, Oregon which is a plus.

I'm having Carlos at Superior Performance Automotive in Albany, Oregon is building my motor and swaping it in. I had some SBC 350 heads built for a couple years and have been itching to use them on something, So the jeeps is getting them.

Then when it's time to tackle the interior I'm going to sand and prime the inside and put about four coats of hurculiner on the entire floor and up to the windows. IFSJA member Men In Black is going to sell me a full interior kit in diamond plate and going to have Greg Taylor powder-coat them all black.

As far as the rear axle goes im going to swap it out with a GM limtited slip 10 bolt that I had laying around. I have the disk brakes conversion kit for from Blackbird Customs out of spokane washington. Im going to regear to 4.56 for the bigger 35"+ tires.

All the suspension I'm buying threw BJ's Off-road witch includes
Bj's 6" all spring and shock kit
drop pitman arm
extended brake line stainless steel type,
dual shock steering stabilizer
all new shackles and hardware
I just want to do it once and be done with it.

Pics for you. Two tabs, one on this page with open dialog box and one with your facebook. Open picture, right click, select 'copy image location', go to other tab with ifsja.org dialog box, right click, select 'paste'. Then put '' after the link, again, without the apostrophes.

OR you can upload your pics to photobucket.com and then when you hover over the pic, a dropdown menu will appear with options you just click on that put the tags on there for you, so you just left click, come back here and right click-paste.

Looks like a fun project, I look forward to seeing more of it!

Whats wrong with the front seats? I would KILL for an interior like that. The blue levi interior is just unbeatable in my book. so unique. If it were mine, and the seats were toast, id save all the buttons and cover em in real denim

PS you can always tell which wheels were on the front LOL. Picked up yet another set of final edition wheels and the inside of 2 were brown from brake dust aswell.

Oh man I would love that interior!! Wonder how much cross country shipping would be? Seems like everyone that gets a blue FSJ does not like it and changes it Those seats are in excellent condition for the year. Already bought some new wheels for my "future" wagon, why not new seats too HA.

And I HATE to say this, but your best bet is probably dyeing what you have black. AHH I want that dash! That dash in this waggy was painted black with special stuff, cant find the pics though. http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=157900

I think cross country shipping would be huge unless you got a freight company that would have space available shipping options. some times moving company do this. The closest port to me is Portland about 35 minutes so that's not a biggy. I would just have to create a box to ship it in. Maybe two boxes.

Nice, So do those seats bolt directly to the stock frames? and I may be interested in that middle seat if you want to get rid of it.

The bestop trailmax seats are practically a direct bolt in. They weren't a "perfect fit" but with a little muscle they fit.

I have been thinking maybe a tj center console so something with arm rest and cubby holes for my 1911

A tj center console would be cool, maybe you could get one with the speaker inside as well.

It looks like the Tuffy 8" wide cb/stereo console will fit pretty good. Then I don't have cut up my dash for a new stereo deck.
