Hey man, I have gone in Company Cars more than once and there are always folks who will let you buddy up and enjoy the scenery! Even if you don't get an FSJ there, it is SO worth doing

Right now it's just me and the dog coming. If I get the truck together in time and make it down I'll more than likely have an open seat.

Yeah I hear you. Would make taking pictures a lot easier. LOL But I would really like to drive also. It will likely be down to the wire if we make it. I am sure maybe something will be open or we can crash and chip in on someone site. Looks like maybe if we make it we could convoy as I am sure we will be heading the same way. I had a dream last night my wife reserved a cabin before telling me yesterday., I was like what the heck, I not sure if we will make it. She said well i did not want to risk it. Maybe I was not dreaming. Need to call the wife.......... LOL EDIT: WOW you can not type W T F???

If you come to Ouray expecting to find a site at the KOA without a reservation, you may be disappointed. They stay very busy Memorial Day to Labor Day and usually booked for summer by April. You could get lucky, roll in and get a spot for one or two nights then have to move to another spot, then maybe another. It is best to reserve ahead of time and cancel at least a few days before the reservation date if you can't make it. I won't try to paint a pretty picture with this fact. Just saying. Good Luck.

Yeah I know it is a crap shoot. I have been trying to make it for years. If this year is like the others it will not matter any way.

I am not trying to shoot you down, just trying to be honest. Best of luck on getting there. You would probably have a better chance hooking up with another FSJer at their KOA site.

Exactly! One of the reasons I was able to go in 04 in a buick instead of my J10 was because I had reserved a site and was able to share with another member who really wanted to go with his Jeep but hadn't reserved a site. I also bought a keg...and accidently stole all his camp silverware. All in all it was a good time for everyone.

For what it's worth, the "feel" of brotherhood (or sisterhood) we all feel here on the board is only magnified when we meet in real life. If a member showed up in Ouray with their FSJ and didn't have a place to park it and sleep, that member would have to be six shades of douchebag to not get helped out by another member. Even so, having a reserved site at the KOA is still the best option.

Many of you have done this more than once before, so you know better than I.

A possible note of caution. When I took over my camp site I mentioned in passing to Debbie(KOA) something to the effect that, "...my bro-in-law may drive down in his JK and spend a day or two with me."

Can't remember her exact words, but she REALLY frowned on multiple vehicles per camp site. Basically, it was one spot one vehicle. Maybe she was having a bad day or something, but that was her stance the day I talked to her.

Maybe someone who's done this before can comment on that.

I have never known it to be a problem. Most spots can handle two jeeps.
There will be cancellations, always is.

Is your avatar jeep related??? I can't tell what it is.

Only Jeep related in relation to my FSJ build. That's why I chose it.

The picture was originally on a box for some sunglasses I bought. Can't remember the brand. I thought it was cool so I scanned it into my computer.

It's an atom bomb mushroom cloud coming out of the top of a guys head. Which perfectly represents how I've felt at times while fabricating my truck.

Probably a good idea to not mention multiples at a site with Dave and Deb. We have had Krista's folks come and stay a nite or two with us a few times. We have also put up another Jeeper on occasion. Two vehicles and two tents have never been an issue. Not to say it would not be an issue but we have had as many as 3 tents and 3 vehicles in our site at least several times so... We put the dog crates in one of our tents. Dave & Deb have been good to work with for 11 years now. Just don't be stringing extension cords over to the sites with electric. That is too obvious something ain't normal. When quiet time comes at 10pm, so do the yellow shirts. If you do something stoopid at the KOA, Flint and Krista will hear about it. Use your head and don't make us hear about it.

I'm not trying to step on any toes here. Or peeve anybody off before I've even met them. The reference to my bro-in-law when I talked to Debbie was casual.

Debbie- How many people will be with you?

Resbum- Just me and my dog, and my bro-in-law may join me for a couple nights.

Debbie- We really only want one vehicle per camp site.

Resbum- Even if he's staying in my tent?

                              Debbie- (paraphrased) Yes.

                              Resbum- OK

                              End of topic.

The people who've done Ouray before know much better than I how things work. I wasn't trying to stir the pot. The day she told me that I thought it was a little unreasonable, but I wasn't going to make a big deal about it.

I am thinking Deb might hate math too. We have had 2 FSJs, 2 tents, 2 dogs registered and checked in every year since 2001. If they put a stop to this, someone else can take over the Ouray gig because we have other things we can do instead. No worries Resbum. If the pot gets stirred, Flint and Krista will hear about that too.
